Origin: IE [Indo-European]X [probably] Gr
Etymology: Prob. for *ἀζαεχής, which can be read in all places in Homer, from *ἀ-δια-εχής (cf. συνεχής) Schulze Q. 471, Bechtel Lex. But the contraction should give α, not η; so DELG suggests influence of ηχή and compounds like δυσηχής. But the meaning is strange; Bechtel: `der ohne Einhalt etwas tut'; I think it would mean `nicht durhaltend', cf. διέχω `hold fast'.
